Give your little one a taste of pumpkin spice with these healthy pumpkin date balls! Whip up a batch of these delicious snack balls made with wholesome ingredients like real pumpkin, oats, pecans and dates. Not only are they perfect for busy moms, but they are baby led weaning and toddler friendly, too!

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 1 1/4 cups rolled oats
  • 4 pitted Medjool dates, or a scant 1/2 cup pitted dates (see notes)
  • 1/3 cup raw pecans
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp pumpkin pie spice
  • 1/2 cup 100% pumpkin puree, canned or homemade

Instructions

  1. In a food processor, blend the oats, dates, pecans and spices until they are finely ground. You want the texture of large sand grains or slightly larger.
  2. Add the pumpkin and blend again until the mixture comes together in a thick dough.
  3. Scoop the mixture by the tablespoon and roll into balls with wet hands to prevent sticking. For BLW babies 6-12 months, you can roll into finger shapes instead of balls.
  4. Store in the refrigerator in an airtight container.

Notes

  • If your dates are dry and hard, soak them in hot water for 15 minutes or so. Drain them before adding to the recipe.
  • The dough will be slightly sticky, but firm enough to hold a ball shape. If it's too sticky, add more oats, just a tablespoon at a time.
  • See "Recipe Variations" section above for substitutions for pumpkin, pecans, and pumpkin pie spice.
