Lactation Tea for Nursing Moms

Boost your milk supply naturally with this homemade lactation tea! Using bulk herbs allows you to skip the expensive single serve bags and customize the blend for your tastes and needs.

Ingredients

Units Scale

For Herbal Tea Blend:

  • 1 cup red raspberry leaf
  • 1 cup nettle
  • 1/2 cup oatstraw
  • 1/2 cup alfalfa*
  • 1/4 cup anise seed
  • 1/4 cup fennel seed
  • 1/4 cup fenugreek seed
  • 1/4 cup chamomile*

To Make One Cup:

  • 1-2 tbsp herbal tea blend
  • 8-12 oz water

To Make One Quart:

  • 1/4 cup herbal tea blend
  • 4 cups water

Instructions

  1. In a quart sized mason jar or other large container with a lid, mix all of the herbs. Store sealed in a cool, dry place.
  2. To brew a cup of tea, add 1-2 tbsp of the tea blend to a tea ball and place in a mug. Cover with boiling or near-boiling water and seep at least 5 minutes. Strain the tea and sweeten to taste. 
  3. To brew a quart for iced tea, add a heaping 1/4 cup of the tea blend to a quart sized mason jar or pitcher. Cover with 4 cups of boiling or near-boiling water. Let the tea cool to room temperature and strain through a fine mesh strainer. For a stronger infusion, seep overnight in the refrigerator and strain in the morning. Store in the refrigerator to sip on throughout the day or week. 

Notes

  • *Optional. really any single ingredient is optional depending on your taste and your body!
  • Other optional additions: Milk Thistle, Caraway, Dandelion Root, Ginger Chips
