Avocado toast is a great way to introduce avocado for baby led weaning! Here's how to make this easy and nutritious staple, plus how to serve it for blw or as a finger food.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 slice bread (I like whole wheat)
  • 1/4 to 1/2 small avocado
  • optional: hemp seeds, ground flaxseed, sesame seeds, or finely chopped pepitas

Instructions

  1. Lightly toast the bread in the toaster. I use about a 2 setting. You don't want crunchy toast. It should be just barely golden and still pliable.
  2. Remove the skin from the avocado and mash with a fork.
  3. Spread the avocado mash on the toast.
  4. If the crusts on the toast are very hard or crusty, cut them off, otherwise you can leave them on. Cut toast into strips the width of 1-2 adult fingers.
  5. Optional: Sprinkle on any extras for a little nutritional boost.

Notes

  • Bread: I like whole wheat bread or sourdough. You can use almost any bread you like, but avoid anything too hard or crusty like French bread, as well as anything with honey for babies under 1 year. You also want a shape that you can cut into finger-length strips.
  • Choosing an avocado: Avocados should give a little when gently squeezed, but shouldn't be mushy or feel hollow.
  • Avocado toast is best enjoyed right away as it does not store well.
