These blueberry overnight oats for baby are made with just a few simple ingredients and no aded sugar. They can be blended for babies in the puree stage or stirred for baby led weaning - either way they are healthy and delicious!
zest and juice from 1/2 lemon OR 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
Optional: 2 tsp ground flaxseed OR 1 tsp chia seeds
Instructions
For baby led weaning:
In a pint sized jar or other container with a lid, stir together all of the ingredients until mixed well.
Cover and refrigerate overnight. In the morning, give it a stir, adding more milk as needed to reach your desired consistency (thick is better for BLW!).
To puree:
In a blender or food processor, blend all ingredients until smooth, adding an extra splash of milk as needed. It will be thick for now if your berries are still frozen.
Pour mixture into a jar with a lid or portion into individual containers and refrigerate overnight.
In the morning, give it a stir, adding more milk as needed to reach your baby's consistency.
Notes
Gluten-free: Make sure your oats are certified gluten-free.
Dairy-free: Use your favorite non-dairy milk and yogurt (make sure they're unsweetened).
Swap the fruit: Swap the blueberries for other favorite frozen fruit, such as raspberries, blackberries, or peaches. Just make sure the pieces are small if you aren't blending - you may want to thaw and mash the fruit before mixing up the oats.
Flavoring: I like lemon juice and zest with the blueberries best, but feel free to use what you like, such as vanilla extract or almond extract!
Sweeten it up: For moms and older kiddos who need a little more sweetness, feel free to sweeten the recipe a bit by adding up to a tablespoon of honey or maple syrup. You can also just drizzle a bit on your portion when serving.
Storage: Overnight oats will keep in the refrigerator in a sealed container for up to 4 days. I don't recommend freezing them.
