Soft cinnamon sautéd apples are the perfect way to serve apples to baby led weaning babies, and they're a delicious topper for mom's oatmeal or yogurt, too! With only 3 ingredients, they're super simple to make.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 apples, any variety
  • 2 tsp oil or butter (I like coconut oil for this recipe)
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 2-4 tsp water, or as needed

Instructions

  1. Peel and slice the apples into about 1/2-inch thick slices.
  2. Heat a nonstick skillet over medium heat. Add the oil or butter.
  3. Add apples and cook, stirring, until they begin to soften and release juices. If they don't release any juices, you may need to add a couple teaspoons of water to prevent sticking.
  4. Add cinnamon and continue to cook, stirring, until apples are soft, about 5-8 minutes. Adjust the heat as needed to maintain a low simmer until they are done.
  5. Test the texture and temperature by smashing a slice of apple between your thumb and index finger before serving to baby.

Notes

  • Cook time: Some varieties of apples may take longer than others to become soft, so adjust the cooking time as needed to achieve a soft texture.
  • Skillet: If you don't have a nonstick skillet or well-seasoned cast iron, you may need to add more oil or butter to prevent sticking.
  • Variations: Add any other spices you may like, such as ginger, nutmeg, cardamom, or pumpkin pie spice.
  • Storage: Store apples in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 5 days.
