No Sugar PB&J Overnight Oats
Overnight oats are always a go-to breakfast for me with a little one (or two!) running around the house. I can easily whip them up in the evening before bed and have a nutrient rich breakfast ready to go in the morning - no cooking required! I love this PB&J inspired overnight oats recipe because it's made with no sugar - just healthy ingredients like yogurt, frozen berries, natural peanut butter, and oatmeal. And these overnight oats are baby led weaning and toddler friendly - so I can make a double batch and share with my little ones.

Ingredients
- Frozen mixed berries - They create a nice and soft jammy texture when thawed. If you only have one type of berry, that works, too!
- Peanut butter - Use the natural kind with no added sugar or oils (such as Crazy Richard's or Kirkland brand).
- Plain Greek yogurt - You can also use regular yogurt, but the texture won't be as thick.
- Milk of choice - I use regular dairy milk for the most protein and calcium, but if you have allergies, use your favorite non-dairy milk. Just use one without added sugar.
- Rolled oats, also called old fashioned oats, give this recipe the best texture. If your spoon fed babe isn't quite ready for the chunky texture of rolled oats, you can use quick or instant oats, or pulse the rolled oats in the food processor.
- Chia seeds - These little super seeds add healthy omega-3 fats and fiber and give the overnight oats a nice thick texture that's perfect for BLW.
Helpful equipment: Mason jars or other containers with lids

- Whisk together the peanut butter, yogurt, and milk.
- Stir in the oats and chia seeds.
- Add the berries to the bottom of a jar or container with a lid. If you're making multiple portions, divide the berries between the jars.
- Top berries with the oatmeal mixture. Seal with the lid and refrigerate overnight or at least 6 hours. In the morning, give it all a stir and serve with an extra drizzle of peanut butter.
Tips and Recipe Variations
- One adult serving / Save a dish: Mix up the peanut butter oat mixture directly in a larger mason jar or other container with a lid and top with the frozen berries instead of dividing between two smaller jars.
- For thinner or smoother oats for spoon fed babies who aren't yet ready for a chunkier texture, use quick oats or instant oats, or blend the dry rolled oats and chia seeds in a blender or food processor before mixing, AND thaw the berries and then blend them up. You can thaw them in the refrigerator overnight and add them on top in the morning.
- Peanut butter: Use any natural nut butter in place of peanut butter.
- Yogurt: You can use regular plain yogurt in place of Greek style yogurt. If you want to keep the thickness, reduce the milk by a couple of tablespoons.
- Mixed berries: If you only have one kind of frozen berry, use that! I like raspberries or blackberries. Using frozen berries is important because they thaw into a soft, jammy texture. They also tend to taste better because they're frozen right after picking.
- Chia seeds: The chia seeds help the overnight oats, which is easier for BLW babies to eat. But if you must, you can leave them out (reduce the milk by a couple tablespoons) or swap them for ground flaxseed.
How To Serve Overnight Oats To Babies 6 Months and Up
For baby led weaning babies, offer overnight oats in a silicone bowl or rimmed plate (one with a suction base helps!) and allow baby to scoop up with his hands, OR offer on a pre-loaded soft spoon.
For spoon-fed babies, thin the oats oat as needed and feed as usual.
FAQ
For a smoother texture (for example, for spoon fed babes who aren't quite in the chunky stage): Blend up the oats and chia seeds in a food processor or blender before stirring them into the milk mixture. You could also use quick or instant oats. You may need to thin the mixture with more milk in the morning. Thaw the berries and blend them up as well. If you're going for this option, you can thaw the berries in the refrigerator overnight and add the blended berries in the morning.
You can leave these overnight oats in the refrigerator for up to 4 days. That means you can make a big batch all at once for the week ahead if you'd like!
Yes! Heat gently in the microwave (30 second intervals) or on the stove (low heat) until you reach the desired temperature. Heating at too high a temperature can cause the dairy to curdle.
