Constipation can be a common occurrence with babies who are starting solids, especially with baby led weaning. It can also happen in toddlers. It's never fun for baby or mom, and can have you wondering how to help things "move along" to make your little one more comfortable. While you can reach for prune juice or prune puree, you can also use breakfast or snack time to offer a nutrient-dense remedy that also tastes good with this "move it along" prune yogurt for babies and toddlers.

Why You'll Love This Prune Yogurt
Prunes are known for relieving constipation, but this yogurt mixture also contains probiotic-rich yogurt and high fiber chia seeds1, which could both not only help in the short term, but can be beneficial to gut health when eaten regularly long term - helping to reduce future occurrences of constipation.
This mixture is easy to whip up if you already have prune puree on hand, and is a nutritious breakfast or snack that is appropriate for babies who have been introduced to solids (about 6 months +). It is also great for toddlers, who might find it more appealing than prunes on their own. If your little one is prone to constipation, keeping this yogurt in the rotation may help keep him more regular.

How To Make It
Here is a quick run-down. See the recipe card at the bottom of the post for ingredient amounts and detailed instructions.
- Mix the chia seeds with a bit of water and allow them to soak for about 5 minutes to form a gel.
- Mix the chia seeds, prunes, and yogurt. Add in any mix-ins as well.
- Stir and offer to your little one!
Recipe Variations and Substitutions
- If you don't have the time, you can skip soaking the chia seeds. You can also leave them out altogether.
- Feel free to add flavor with cinnamon, cardamom, or orange zest.
- Pears are also good for constipation, so you can stir in a bit of pear puree if you have it.
- You can stir in a bit of peanut butter powder, if you have it. Peanut powder is good for allergen exposure, and can also help to thicken up mixtures that are too thin.
Storage
Store prune yogurt in the refrigerator for up to 4 days. I love glass baby blocks for storing small portions. I don't recommend freezing since yogurt doesn't freeze well.
How To Serve Prune Yogurt for Baby Led Weaning
For baby led weaning babies, you can serve this yogurt on a pre-loaded soft spoon that you hand to baby or set on the tray. You can also spread it onto pancakes, waffles, or toast fingers.
